Lorrie grew up on the Canadian prairies, a proud flat-lander by heritage, though only a few generations. She now lives with her family in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Lorrie completed a Bachelor of Education as a visual art specialist from the University of Regina. She later completed a Master of Arts in Visual and Performing Arts in Education from the University of British Columbia. Her M.A. thesis dealt with the learning experiences of First Nation women artists from two communities. Learning to be Proud was the resulting thesis. Her Ph.D, also from UBC, was in Curriculum Studies. Her primary focus of research involved voice, empowerment, narrative, and women’s experiences and collaborative art practices in public and performance art. She examined the collaborative performance art project by Suzanne Lacy. Constructing Voices is the resulting dissertation.

The writing of Constructing Voices stirred her creative curiosity and ultimately led her to dive into the writing of memoir and fiction. Some of her work can be found directly on her personal blog: http://lorriemiller.wordpress.com/

On the mothering front, she is married and has four children, all of whom provide her with an abundance of fodder for fiction and memoir.

One piece of her short fiction: Evolution of a Pantry is published on Page Forty-Seven, an on-line anthology hosted by author Pearl Luke. A second short story, Cadwallader Creek, will be published in literary journal, Room, September 2010. It is the first chapter of her novel in progress—yet unnamed.

One of her sons is a longboarder, and so she sometimes writes about this:

Caution: Our kids are in the Fast Lane, Concrete Wave, 100% Skateboarding , Vol 8, No. 4, Winter 2010, pp 62-67.

My son’s need for speed The Globe and Mail

Longboarding, A Parent’s Perspective. Unkle.ca

Skateboarding For Beginners, from a Parent’s POV. Momsteam.com

An avid camper, she writes about her wilderness adventures with her family.

The Zen of Camping: The Motherhood Muse, issue 3. July, 2010. (coming this summer)

Extreme Camping: with the kids. The Momoir Project.

Besides parenting, and writing, Lorrie teaches adult education for the Vancouver School Board where she has worked for more than a decade before she stopped counting.
